Trina's Biography

Hello, my name is Trina, Hughes and I am the founder of Trina's Boot Camp & Fitness for Women! Let me tell you a little by about my journey from working out with soup cans for weights to trainer and business owner.

After giving birth to my daughter 27 years ago I decided that I wanted to commit to working out, but like many women I didn't know where to start. The truth is that the majority of women are intimidated by all of the equipment and/or cliques that come along with your typical gym experience and I was no different. All of these factors led me to take my health and wellness into my own hands. I started by doing workouts I found in fitness magazines and by following along to video workouts. At the beginning my weights were soup cans, as I didn't own weights and was too weak to do the movements properly.

Over time I achieved my first fitness goal, losing 61 pounds In the process. I then focused my efforts on strength training and muscle building, yet again researching movements and exercises on my own. The more I pushed myself personally the more inspired I became to enter this field professionally.

In 2010 I went through the process to be certified as a trainer. I accepted a job at a local gym in 2012 before heading out on my own in the fall of 2013. While I was subcontracting out of another gym, I decided to continue my education by returning to school in 2014. Two years later I transferred to Chico State where I graduated with a degree in nutrition. In 2017 I made a major breakthrough by opening a 1,800 square-foot studio of my own. My time in the fitness sector has continued to inspire me to help women battle against the intimidation of entering a gym with no athletic background. Now I have my own space and I can cultivate that space without the "gym mentality": the egos, the looks and the laughs aimed at those trying to simply improve themselves.

All of my experiences have allowed me to see the world of training from numerous angles. The wide breadth of experience and knowledge I gained in the classroom and the weight room allowed me to curate my own business into something that works for women just like me. My gym consists of supportive women who will transition from stranger to friend to family over your mutually shared passion for fitness. I have loved seeing women of all experience levels and backgrounds come to the gym to workout and become friends with one another because they feel safe and welcome; they feel that working out is approachable and accessible.

Skip to today~ I lost 16 lbs, 8% body fat and 22". I am a smaller person, so this was HUGE on my body. I will be 60 years old next year and feel like I am 30 years old again!! I fit into all the clothes that I have not worn in years and keep right up with my Granddaughter. What a blessing Trina has been in my life. I am a believer! I started Trina's bootcamp over 1.5 years ago. I was not in a good place mentally or physically. I had gone through menopause and had no energy and gained 15lbs. I felt horrible about myself and it affected my entire life. I have always been athletic and worked out so this was all new to me. I joined bootcamp and started eating better through Trina's food program. I loved bootcamp not only for the amazing workout (and yes it is hard), but for the group of amazing women that supported you. I started Trina’s Bootcamp in November of 2019 as a jumpstart to begin my fitness journey. Little did I know that I would absolutely love it and it would become a lifestyle change for me. My name is Laurene P. and this is my tenth month with Trina's Boot Camp. I am 65 years old and never thought I would be in such great shape, I have muscles I never knew I had. I could not do a sit up when I first started, now I can do several which still amazes me, I finally have shapley legs, and a little more shape to my once flat rear. I always feel amazing after class and always glad I went. Trina is a very supportive and positive person, her classes are fabulous with a great group of ladies. One of the first things I said when I met Trina was “I really hate exercise.” I have never stuck to an exercise program in my life, but I was headed to Maui and thought I would give it a shot. I never thought I would stay more than a few months! It’s now five years later and I’m not going to tell you I love exercise, but I do absolutely LOVE this class!! I joined her Boot Camp 4 years ago, thinking she would kick me in gear for my big Wedding day. It was tough at first, but I got stronger each session and saw my body transform. Trina not only has an amazing work out plan 3 days a week, but she works out along side you!! And the group of ladies is phenomenal. It’s a low impact workout with high rewards and you choose how much your own body can do without hurting yourself. Cardio and free weights. That’s it! Oh.. her Friday Circuit days are the best. Where should I begin? It had taken me a few months to decide to make the commitment to attend Trina’s Boot Camp.
